I'm well aware of how much work it is.  I've cut a few releases in my day.
Although, I'd like to see an rc8 before "official" release.  Aren't ther
still bugs in jira?  Shouldn't we try to fix those first too?

building a release is a lot of work, and promoting an rc means doing a
rebuild because pom versions have to be changed inside the release.
