None of the core-developer uses porlet so I guess this is why there is no more portlet support since wicket 1.5.
Our only hope hope are community developers skilled enough to provide us the portlet support. As you point out : https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/WICKET-4019 I'm using it with liferay 6.1 and it working fine. Support for wicket 6 would be nice. Support for portlet 2.0 also!
