Possible recovery path: By going to the last successful CI build (https://github.com/apache/xalan-java/actions/runs/7371122789), I was able to download a zipfile of the code as it stood at that time.

Unfortunately that doesn't include the git history.

However, I was able to revert to my last good commit to master,https://github.com/apache/xalan-java/commit/353a329730eea135fe6f7a1669616f2efe12cd8a

and re-merge that.
