Ted, thanks for creating the patch against trunk.
I should note that there are a few (previously mentioned) limitations/bugs with
this version. I hope to sort them out over the next day or so. However, for
anyone who wants to start reviewing this now is welcome to as the remaining
bugs I intend to fix shouldn't modify the basic approach.
