Germán Blanco commented on ZOOKEEPER-1732:
------------------------------------------
A colleague has suggested that maybe the leader election information of an
established ensemble is not that relevant, since it actually doesn't take part
in the leader election logic. The new server just checks if the ensemble has a
quorum and the leader is alive (sends a notification voting for itself). I am
not able to see all the implications, but at a first look it seems that the
ensemble could agree to vote e.g. for the proposed epoch received in LEADERINFO
as election epoch and zxid zero and things would work in the same way.
That would avoid any additional information in the messages altogether.

> I have a test in which I do a rolling restart of three ZooKeeper servers and
> it was failing from time to time.
> I ran the tests in a loop until the failure came out and it seems that at
> some point one of the servers is unable to join the enssemble formed by the
> other two.
