fwiw one of the places I have seen this as important is for our testing. When
we run multiple ZK servers w/in the same JVM in order to simulate an N member
ensemble the ability to "shutdown" a particular server is important. Not
possible to "kill -9" one of the ensemble members in this case... Although
granted there are other options we might take advantage of for this scenario.
