It seems that outbound is fine, but no inbound? any ideas how to get
around this?

Voicestream as a network (to the best of my knowledge) doesn't accept in
coming SMSs from any other carrier. This may change with their recent
partnerships with other companies, however our Voicestream system in the
US
only works that way at the moment.
