>1) Is it mandatory for any SMSC to support all the DCSchemes?

The SMSC doesnt deal with the DCSchemes usually, it just sends it to
the receiving phone as information on how the data should be
interpreted.

>2)Is this specification protocol specific meaning to say if a

>3)Does the handset have the capability to send a message in a more
>than one dcs format to the SMSC?

Yes it can. Some handsets support english and a foreign language like
arabic or cyrilic

>4)How does the SMSC know if the ESME(Application Service) supports a
>particular data coding scheme?

It doesnt have to know.

>So if it is known then does it use the default data coding
>conversion or the specific one supported by ESME? Or is it that
>whatever DCS is in the message SMSC applies only the default dcs ?

The SMSC simply sends it to the application "as-is". Its up to the
application to deal with it accordingly.

>5)From SMSC to the SME(MS) how is the data coding scheme defined?
>6)How many dcs does kannel support and can anyone give me the source
>code for it?...Thanks in advance:-)

See the source of kannel.
