I just made a change to gw/opensmppbox.c which will fix this bug.

Possibly it has to do with a connection that is not available temporarily. >From the logs that you are providing, there has been no link activity for exactly 5 minutes. That should give a clue. Opensmppbox is correct about terminating the connection.
