I do the same.  One big issue with giving positive karma is that you 
probably aren't testing all use-cases for the software, so I'm hesitant 
to +1 just because it didn't explode.  It's important to know though 
that is *didn't* explode (which certainly would result in negative karma 
from any testers out there.  I still think there aren't enough testers, 
but neither should every tester give +1 to every package.
