I've emailed all the relevant maintainers; protobuf 2.5.0 (#883822) bumped .so from 7 to 8 and I didn't notice until after kicking off the build, mea culpa. I wouldn't expect any API compatibility breakage, but I don't remember the tool for diffing shared objects — can anyone point me to it?
