Having just read "man ntpd" for -q -g -x, I see that it is a valid
replacement for using ntpdate on boot. (I wonder why the ntp people didn't
just make ntpdate a link to ntpd and check arg[0] to change its function)

But see my previous comments about requiring a 1 hour accuracy to
resolve pool.ntp.org before ntpd runs anything.
