In the process, I extended the tag format in an upward-compatible fashion to allow value strings longer than 127 bytes: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Manufacturing_Data#Data_Format I have implemented support for that new format, with full interoperability with the old short format, in a test version of the firmware.
