I hope you don't mean to suggest eliminating the text. Reading should be encouraged, not banished. Tux Paint, a program commonly used by kids who are many years younger than school age, is full of text. It is all localized. We deal with problems (text being cut off, etc.) as they happen. Putting text labels on everything is an excellent way to encourage reading. It is very sad that the hardware isn't covered in labels, but at least the hardware has a bit of an excuse.
