Hi,

We're pleased to announce our first release candidate of our new
11.3.0 software release.

Information and installation instructions can be found here:

Quick links for those who know which files need to be grabbed and save
to USB disks:

This is a signed release candidate that can be installed on all XOs,
even those with security enabled.

We're looking for testing and feedback on all aspects of the system.
Thanks for any help you can offer, and for all the feedback that was
received throughout development.

Our scheduled release date is November 1st.

Please review the "Known problems" section of the release notes. Some
documented issues are carried over from previous releases, but others
are new and are things that we will aim to fix in the few weeks before
release, including:

XO-1.75
Sound does not work in many activities (ticket #11296).
There is no suspend/resume support yet.
There is slight mouse cursor visual corruption in Sugar, and the
mouse cursor in GNOME appears odd, but is otherwise functional.
Sometimes, part of the screen may not redraw correctly, such as
Sugar's neighborhood view after dismissing the wireless security
dialog (ticket #11273)
Kernel messages are not sent over the serial console when booting
in secure mode (ticket #11315).

XO-1 audio does not work when the system is booted in secure mode
(ticket #11311)

For those who have been following the development releases, here are
the changes since the last development build (8):

Tap-to-click was disabled on AVC touchpads. This means you should no
longer be able to find that tap-to-click is enabled on any XO-1,
XO-1.5 or XO-1.75 laptop.

Many activities were updated for translations and minor fixes.

The Browse PDF reader plugin was readded.

XO-1.75 was updated to the latest version of Firefox 3, in sync once
again with XO-1/XO-1.5.

XO-1 has switched back from ubifs to jffs2 for this release. This is
due to the fact that disk space requirements are still a bit high for
our switched to partitions and ubifs, and also because we have an
outstanding issue preventing ubifs images booting on some laptops
(#11094). We'll continue working on this in future development cycles.

XO-1.75 activation was fixed.

XO-1.75 hardware mouse cursor was enabled. This solves some visual
corruption caused by (e.g.) drag and drop, but does add some
imperfections with the new appearance of the mouse cursor.

XO-1.75 firmware was updated to Q4B11. This fixes the camera and other things.
