As a first step similar to what you have done, I think USB support (merely wrap 
the existing softusb core and integrate it into -ng with some "details" like 
clocking) sounds very interesting.

(Otherwise, the current most annoying major bug in -ng manifests itself with 
framebuffer "instability", e.g. writing to memory from the CPU while the 
framebuffer is enabled often crashes the latter)

Can you tell us more about the DDR3 controller? We'll probably have DDR3 on 
the next (M^3) board as well...
Have you had a look at the ASMIcon controller in -ng?
