It's probably worth to look also at the related network traffic: in my experiment, it happens that some notification events are sent from the exchange server (MS exchange 2007 sp1) multiple times, without any easily replicable schema. (It's really a server/protocol issue, since it happen using a MS-only/mapi32 based client).
