Hi Olivier,

Samba4 is indeed required to run OpenChange server and proxy code.

It is partially possible (at the moment) to build applicative gateway
using OpenChange server or proxy.

Part of the technology required to write such gateway is already
available in trunk (e.g. libmapiproxy for MAPI handles management),
however the abstraction storage layer (libmapistore) which - IMHO -
would better fit your needs is still a draft and we have a long way to
go prior it can be used.

Among different things, writing such proxy gateway require:
        1. IMAP to Exchange property mapping
It can be done pretty quickly for common properties
(mail transport headers, recipients, subject, mail body
etc.). For Exchange only properties - in case Outlook
requires them to fetch consistent emails - we would
                probably have to implement/add a winmail.dat file.

        2. Generate Message ID and keep consistent database between IMAP
mail ID and MAPI Message ID.

        3. OpenChange servers need to support/implement more MAPI Rops.

Cheers,
Julien.
