or USB sticks (Plugin, mount , umount and unplug) plasma crash and no
backgrounds and panels after the crash

I had the same problem with my gentoo after kde upgrade 4.7.4 to 4.8
(not solved yet)

I thouth kernel/drivers issues but downgrading kernel and/or drivers
/(Ati and nvidia) nothing changes ...

I reported this bug to the kde team -->

Much informations are available in the kde-bug-report pasties. (for my
Gentoo)

Some users have reported the same problem in the Sabayon-Mania Forum

See my cookbug attachment for Sabayon-Linux (Sabayon 7 fully upgraded
running Sabayon 3.0.0 Kernel)

Hadn't this bug been reported already? For me it happens if I start KDE with any device connected that would appear in knotify (usb, esata and possibly other devices). A workaround for me is to disconnect any device before starting KDE.
Alternatively, I can usually restore a crashed session by doing:
Alt+F2
konsole
plasma-desktop&

This, obviously, after removing the external devices.
I hope this bug will get fixed soon, anyways!
