Since you mention it, I think the blue youtube videos problem is related
to vdpau. I've had it on more than one PC, and I temporarily solved it
by disabling video acceleration for flash.
I found various workarounds, other than that. This one for example seems
to work, if causing problems of stability in the browser:

(I've also had the overlay problem, as well as frequent freezes and
zombie operapluginwrapper processes).
On a side note, I found you can set Youtube to prefer html5 over flash
when possible: http://www.youtube.com/html5. However, this is a beta
and, at least with Opera, Youtube seems to fallback to flash way too often.
