Today is the one-year anniversary of our fork from NTP Classic. After considering our recent performance with respect to CVEs avoided and evaded, and the fact that we seem to have found and resolved Hal's mystery core dump in ntpq, I report to our project manager that in my judgment as tech lead no barrier now exists to a 1.0 release.
I've looked over our issues list and everything is minor. We have many months of stable, trouble-free operation at multiple test sites to look back on, and an almost unnatural lack of crises in our development history. Recently we have been *dramatically* successful on the security front. Evading 12 out of the last 16 CVEs while incurring not a one of our own is a pretty big deal. It's a damn shame I haven't been able to deliver TESTFRAME yet, but that is looking sufficiently difficult that we probably shouldn't hold 1.0 on it lest we be stuck in perpetual beta. That said, I am not in a hurry about this. My intent is not to push for a 1.0 release but to free your hand in deciding the timing. I find myself in the happy position of having higher confidence in the codebase than I expected to 12 months in. -- <a href="http://www.catb.org/~esr/">Eric S.
