Sanjeev Gupta via devel <devel@ntpsec.org>: > Interface is 100Mbps > ntpsec is the only network service on the machine. gpsd runs locally > CPU load is under 3% > Hardware is a dual-core Pentium 4, 2800MHz, from about 2006 > Network traffic is under 100kbps > PPS is about 500/s, RX is 10% more than TX > > Current client count is 18071
Hooookayyyy, then... 18K clients on 10-year old hardware with a processor a bit more than half the speed of current and slower memory, drives utilization to a whole whopping three percent. *Gasp!* 3%? Find me my fainting couch... Yeah, that's pretty consistent with what I see on my RasPis. It takes the hammer of Thor to any theory that ntpd might have any serious performance problems on server- or desktop-class hardware. Maybe on really low-power embedded systems, but even that seems dubious in 2019. -- <a href="http://www.catb.org/~esr/">Eric S.
