by the way, handling of xmlrpc strings is badly broken in xmlrpc-c
version 0.9.10.  i just checked and these bugs appear to have been fixed
in version 1.10 from march 28, 2007.  unfortunately gutsy libxmlrpc-c3
is based on old version 1.06 from July 13, 2006.  i wonder why these
bleading edge distros don't use newer versions of xmlrpc-c.
