Hi,

can't you use a share directory outside the owncloud data/-folder for
this purpose? Use the external storage feature:
https://doc.owncloud.org/server/8.2/admin_manual/configuration_files/external_storage_configuration_gui.html

"external" is only in reference to the owncloud data/-folder.
