I'm the author of the toshiba_acpi Linux driver, which allows control of LCD brightness on some Toshiba laptops.
After upgrading from XFree86 4.2.1 to 4.3.0.1 on my laptop (Toshiba Libretto L5 with Radeon M6), a bizarre problem has started: if I switch to the console and back to X, my driver is no longer able to adjust the LCD brightness until the next machine reboot. The driver operates by using the ACPI extensions for display adapters defined in the appendix of the ACPI spec. I'm not sure how, but I suspect that the radeon driver may be causing the problem.
I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a problem like this, or if some relevant bug fix has been made to the radeon driver since XFree86 4.3.
