This is a question about the "mga" driver (for Matrox cards),
parties not interested in this topic, please kindly skip... :-)

There have been many folks (myself included) finding problems with
the mga HAL, in particular, when using DVI. My case: G550, and a
flat pannel; if DVI is not used, the HAL can be completely bypassed
and everything works.

I just tried Xorg 6.8.1 yesterday, lo and behold, DVI works, on the
FreeBSD system I use. This despite the fact that the "mgaHALlib.a" from
Matrox's version 4 driver set is identical for 4.3.0, 6.8.0 and 6.8.1.
So the difference is in the mga code.

However, when I browsed at the mga driver code in Xorg 6.8.1, they appear
to be based on XFree86 4.3.0, with modifications (e.g. FLATPANNEL handling).
So, can someone share some light on 4.4.0 vs. Xorg 6.8.1?

Aside:
Xorg 6.8.1 I built has a somewhat major problem: despite mga reporting
that it created a dri driver, glxinfo says there's no DRI, both OpenGL
vendor and renderer strings are "(null)" -- even though mesa and libGL
stuff are all there.

Anyway, it looks to require some work to get Matrox Xorg 6.8.1 driver
code merged to 4.4.0. I'm just wondering if anyone has started that
already, and/or knows more about 4.4.0/6.8.1 issues, care to shed some
light. Thanks.
