Hi All,
I would like to follow up on this case to see if any ZFS recovery
tools have been written?
Thanks in advance,
Evgeny

Hi Evgeny,
As others have pointed out, your best bet right now is to keep your raw
disks backed up and wait for better tools for ZFS data recovery. I've
recently worked on some ZFS changes to make such recovery easier and have a
higher success rate. It will probably take a few months until it is pushed
to Illumos but I'll let you know once that is done.
I'm planning to write a blog post once the feature is out. Here's a few
things that I've addressed that might be applicable to your case:
- Add debug tracing during the pool import process
- Allow importing pools through configuration changes (e.g. a device was
replaced)
- Add global variables to allow overriding some checks during pool import,
using the kernel debugger / zdb.
Regards,
Pavel
