Sorry, but https://www.illumos.org/issues/6477 does not depend on the use of -f or have anything to do with it really. The destruction occurs in the import step without the use -f and the use of -f higher up in the example is to simulate device name changes that occur on OS X and Linux across reboots and also simply if devices are unplugged and replugged. The cause is the import's use of a cache device with the matching name regardless of the presence or absence of an appropriate label.
