Any developers out there with experience on Google Maps mashups who'd
be prepared to either build or help me build a very simple mashup to
help a charity fundraising?

This year I'm doing the Aspire Channel Swim again, to help raise money
for Aspire (a spinal injury charity). It doesn't involve actually
swimming the English Channel, just swimming the equivalent distance
(22 miles ~= 35400 metres) in my local pool or pools, over the course
of 12 weeks.

In the last couple of years, I have used a map at Google's "My Maps"
to illustrate my progress across the channel, linked to a justgiving
page for sponsorship donations. It was a bit of a bugger placing my
little swimmer icon in the right place - especially when tired after
each swim - and obviously this wouldn't be sensible for any less geeky
swimmer.

It seems to me that there's an obvious and easy mashup to be done
here: let registered users enter the distance swum on any given
occasion (probably remember the length of their local pool and then
they just enter the number of lengths), record all this in MySQL, and
then draw little graphics showing distance covered across the channel.
Have little communities of friends "race" against each other. I know
that comparing progress with a friend definitely helped me to complete
the distance.

Sounds like very much a SMOP, but I have no Google Maps programming
experience at all. So maybe somebody else's SMOP?
