So two things (that are important and a little comment)

"The finalists and winners of the European eGovernment Awards will be
selected by a panel of eminent independent experts."

1) who are these worthies ... can we lobby them about what we think a
winning entry should be (e.g. standards style interoperability etc)

2) How do we get someone from the mySociety world on the panel in two
years time?

"The European eGovernment Awards are organised every two years. The
aim is to identify and select good practices in the use of ICT in
public services and highlight the benefits of ICT to society,
including:

    * Improved quality of life of citizens
    * Increased public trust in government
    * Increased competitiveness of European enterprises"

Personally I rather approve of the motive for these awards, even if
the quality of the submissions so far are not world shattering, is
there anything we could do as a group to encourage uk gov bodies
(local national quango) to get more involved? even if their work is
not quite where we wish it could be, anything to help motivate them to
improve cant be all that bad!

George.
