My gf's a primary school teacher and from what I hear they could do with a means of sharing lesson planning material. They have to produce planning material for each lesson in the week. They'll either work together in each year or together. Generally the material is created from scratch with images gathered from the net. The younger teachers will create either powerpoint or smartboard files. They will then use the same files next year around probably with some mild modification. So their effort reduces slightly year on year but they're essentially working alone when they could be sharing resources on a more national level.
The daft thing is that there's no central source for them to share these files. I think they could do with some wiki and file storage mechanism that handled the resources. It would need some categorisation of subjects, year groups and lesson objectives which all sounds like tags to me. There is a website that does try tackle this area - www.primaryresources.co.uk but there's no push from management to use it and suffers from looking like a geocities site and probably a lack of coverage. I'd appreciate any thoughts where to stick this further - if I should be waiting for an idea comp to come along, or try mailing my mp or dept. of education.
