Hi all, Yesterday Seb Bacon mailed 2000 odd Democracy Club volunteers to send them their first task - crowd sourcing local issues. They've been pouring in ever since, which is a real kick, although we're obviously going to have to do lots more clever things to make them all suitable for posing to candidates.
In order to support the full on powering-up of DemocracyClub, I'm holding the first proper DemocracyClub meetup this Thursday in Manchester. The goal of the meetup is to discuss local issues, and then work together to produce a set of well polished, nicely balanced issues that can be used as an exemplar for the rest of the country. Here are the details: http://madlab.org.uk/content/manchester-democracy-club/ AKA MadLab, 36-40 Edge Street, Manchester M4 1HN from 6pm (6.30 really). I'd really love a few things which some of you might be able to help with: 1. I'd like local bloggers and journalists, both local and national, to come along and report back about what happens when a few volunteers meet and make beautiful accountability data. I want video. I want tweets. I want a spurious human interest story on BBC local radio. 2. I'd like as many DemocracyClub volunteers as possible from the region around Manchester to come. 3. I'd like those of you who have friends who are not signed up, but who live locally, to drop them a line letting them know that they are welcome even if they don't really know what DemocracyClub is - I'll be explaining it myself to whoever comes. 4. I'd like two strangers to meet at the event, fall in love, get married, have a baby and name it DemocracyClub. Can you help us achieve any of these things? thank you!
