To be fair its hardly a secret there are public archives. There is even a link in the footer of messages.
I've never bothered trying to hide my email - and I never see spam (well maybe 1 or 2 a month). Spam filters are great! To be honest get more 'spam' from otherwise genuine eCommerce sites - that share your email with 'carefully selected partners' - with or without your consent. Use unique email address per service, so its easy to see the ones selling your details.
