Hi all,
I thought I'd share something I've been working on for a bit now. It's a
website that tracks and researches the candidates in the upcoming police
and crime commissioner elections (Nov 15th) called YourNextPCC
(suggestions for a non-wonky media-friendly named much desired)
http://yournextpcc.com
In many ways it's a continuation of what Seb, Edmund and I did in 2010
for the general election with Democracy Club and YourNextMP. All data
downloadable (though the API and dumps could be refined a bit).
One of the main things I've recently been working on for it is a
crowdsourcing tool to research facts about candidates (mostly
biographical) and this is where I hope you come in. The idea is that
people find short objective facts about candidates, other people check
them, and then they're combined into a short bio about each candidate.
You can access the first step (fact gathering) here
http://www.yournextpcc.com/tasks/facts
and the second step (fact checking) here
http://www.yournextpcc.com/tasks/facts/check
If you could have a go at one or both of the above, that would be
fantastic. In my testing so far, I've found it's possible to rapidly
gather the key facts about each candidate in a way that's more readable
than the usual waffle!
Any questions/suggestions/complaints very welcome. I'll be around to
reply/fix things.
Cheers,
Tim
