   Where and when

We'll be hacking at the 10gen offices at *Unit 2G, 5-25 Scrutton Street* (EC2A 4HJ), near Old Street, map <http://osm.org/go/euu6FYurq--?m>. You want to use the right hand door of "Zetland House" and in order for you to get in, you need to give Derick a ring. For Derick's phone #, message him through the OSM messaging system for user name here <http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Derick%20Rethans>, or DM him on twitter <http://twitter.com/derickr>. photo of the door coming soon. (You can also reach Harry on O7979815013 )

We'll be hacking from *10a.m. till 6p.m* on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd. There will also be pub shenanigans on Saturday and probably Sunday evening. We are able to come and go, and you are allowed to attend just some of the time, but you do need to be on the list to enter the building.

     Hosted by 10gen with food by placr.co.uk

Big thanks to our hosts: 10gen <http://www.10gen.com>, the mongoDB company. (and Derick <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Derick>)

More big thanks to placr.co.uk <http://placr.co.uk> who are sponsoring the hack weekend (a.k.a. paying for some lunch)

     Pub shenanigans

We'll be downing tools and heading for some light refreshment on Saturday and Sunday.

6-7pm at *The Fox* pub in Shoreditch (map <http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=51.523392&mlon=-0.084144&zoom=18&layers=M>).

We'll be aiming to hit the pub some time around 6-7pm so if you're only free in the evening, or you're scared of laptops, come join us for beers instead! We may move on a bit later on. Because not sure if the pub does food.

Pre-drinks on Friday 30th? We /could/ do this, but currently no plans. If there's some folks travelling to London and making a weekend of it, then we should gather to help make the most of it! Let us know below.

   What is this? Event format

An OpenStreetMap "hack weekend" is a meet-up where we bring along laptops to an office space and spend the weekend doing some technical work on and around OpenStreetMap. We'll be working on improving OpenStreetMap's "core" components <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Components>, the editors <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Editors>, or other peripheral tools and services. But you can also hack on your own pet projects, and you are very welcome to bring along questions and challenges related to your /use/ of OpenStreetMap, whether you are exploring ways of embedding the map on your website, or getting to grips with geodata manipulations.

OpenStreetMap has development <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Develop> tasks sprouting from it in all directions. There's work to do in almost any programming language, as well as less technical tasks like documentation, graphics design and translation. If you're not sure where to get started, we'd love to show you where you can help!

We mostly take a fairly unstructured free-form format. People turn up and start beavering away on something, or they turn up and see what they can help with.

     Workshops

We'll do some workshops again in if there is demand. Previously we've had workshops on the rails port coding ideas, and Potlatch 2, and using git

     Travelling to London

In the past we've had people making a special journey to London to be at the hack weekend, even from other countries. Get in touch if you need a spare sofa to sleep on.

   Other Events

For other London events (including less technical gatherings) see London#Events <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/London#Events>

Read about the past London Hack Weekend May 2011 <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/London_Hack_Weekend_May_2011> and other similar events in Category:Hack Day <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Category:Hack_Day> to get a feel for what this will be like.

   Ideas for themes / targets

/This is just a rough ideas brainstorm. Put your ideas here!/

   * The Rails Port <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/The_Rails_Port>
         o *Notes* (formerly known as OpenStreetBugs). ...deploy??
         o *activity streams* display. A more compelling 'user profile'.
         o *Tag editing* capability of the browse display.
               + Comment: Yes, please! (I was thinking of developing a
                 Greasemonkey script for this but I couldn't find the
                 time.)
         o *Messaging*
               + Dialogs chaining, like in gmail or facebook?
               + Public message walls like in Wikipedia?
   * POI hacking
         o *POI planet*
         o *POI editor* - reduced capability editor perhaps a branch of
           the new iD <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/ID> editor?
           Deployable for a specific interest area.
         o *Bike Shop Locator*, *snapshot-server*. and generic tools
           for 'community import' of POIs.
   * The new iD <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/ID> editor. Loads
     of dev to do, but also lots happening between RichardF & MapBox
     guys (needs discussion to avoid clashes)
   * Expand mod_tile to generate UTFGrid outputs alongside png output
   * Andy will be hacking on openstreetmap-carto
     <https://github.com/gravitystorm/openstreetmap-carto>
   * *Transport!*
         o Hacks related to railways and bus data are of interest to
           our sponsors placr.co.uk <http://placr.co.uk> (chat to Harry
           <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Harry_Wood> about
           your ideas)
