Hi open data fans, Thought you might be interested to see the new corporate network data we've been working on at OpenCorporates. Feedback is very welcome.
Network data (i.e. who controls whom) is really important for understanding how the international corporate world operates. One obvious benefit, which is in the news right now, is that it will help track tax avoidance schemes, but there are lots of other reasons too: better regulation, better understanding of systemic risk, and so on. Here are some cool maps we've made showing some US banks [1]. They show complete networks as we know them for each bank. Those need generating for each network. Our standard on-the-fly network exploration maps (e.g. [2] - select "show data as network") only show sections of a network at once. Click a node to recentre the graph on it, and continue exploring It's all available as open data, including the provenance for each fact (e.g. [3]) We've written a blog post about this effort [4] and will be writing some more about the tech details in the coming weeks.
