Thanks! :-) > I have to check if there is a reason why we'll have to support > autotools 1.4. That's because the dist_x_SOURCES is supported only > with autotools 1.5 and greater. What kind of reason could this be? The current automake revision is 1.10 and 1.4 is from 1999 (!). I mean - if you are trying to achieve 1999 compatiblity, I'm not really wondering why there are tons of prehistoric and buggy hacks in the scripts to work around problems which are not existing any more for about 8 years. The autotools have only to be used by the maintainers of this project and I suppose it cannot be a real problem to tell a maintainer to configure && make && make install the latest and greatest version of the autotools on his machine. Or am I missing something? No end user of dotgnu ever has to run the autotools on his machine, and if you wouldn't check in autogenerated files to the CVS (as every other project on this planet does) it wouldn't even matter. Is there a reason why the dotgnu project doesn't do regular releases? I hope a working "make distcheck" mechanism could make this a lot of easier. Sorry if I sound a little bit annoyed - no offense intended, and I'm trying my best to help making the system better if I can. It's just that I'm a little bit in a hurry for a project and already lost nearly a week with hacking build scripts ... ;) However, thanks for caring! Robert -- Dipl.-Ing.
