As a side comment, currently, mailing lists on Yahoo that have unrestricted access to the archives can be accessed via RSS. I have subscribed to the unrestricted Yahoo mailing lists that are about Dean on my Drupal site. Take a look at http://ahynes1.homeip.net:8180/drupal/index.php?q=import/bundle/8 as an example.
Granted, it doesn't do everything we want with a mailing list incorporated in Drupal, but it is another available tool, especially useful for dealing with folks over on Yahoo. As a side question, probably one for Moshe: Is there any way to get Drupal to login to Yahoo with a predefined userid to be able to get to RSS feeds for restricted mailing list archives? Feel free to contact me back channel on this. An announce-type list can be done entirely within Drupal and not require extra mailing list software. If we want full mailing lists where anyone can email to post then we need to look at full mailing list packages to make a Drupal frontend for. Let the list know what you think sites will want and maybe move the debate over to the wiki or hackers list since this isn't strictly an implementation decision. -Neil
