I've been using Netbeans for a long time, and edited a lot of XML in it as well, but I've never experienced these problems. One hint: to edit XML properly, you need Netbeans XML module. Do you have it installed? The presence of this module is indicated by the use of syntax-coloring in the display of XML-files and XML specific functionality in the file popup menu like "check XML" and "validate XML".If the module isn't installed yet, you can download and install it using the Update Center in Netbeans.
