It will probably have to be dropped at some point (meaning people who use it right now should concider moving it to local code or switching to the new one). Whether we do that in 1.7 or a later release is another point of discussion. I suggest that people who will OBJECT to the code being removed in 1.7 (rather than 1.8) say so now.
If we have no objections I guess we can remove it from 1.7 (but leave it in 1.6), and document changes in the release notes.
This is all assuming the original vote succeeds, ofcourse, and the code proves to be stable.
At any rate, all non-core code will have to be moved to applications, so the code will eventually be removed from the core mmbase jar anyway (along with a LOT of other code).
