The new storage layer will be very different from the current one.
There is little that will remain of the original implementation (at least in this form).
I checked in the first bits of code (and documentation) in the speeltuin CVS (under gomez/storage).
Whether this will make it in 1.7 is dependent on how quick I ill manage to change the classes.
I personally hope it will, because the change is so large that I would rather not have the old storage code in two successive releases (that is, 1.6 and 1.7).
