I think so yes. It might cost another year to release 1.8, and we don't like to wait that long. As said, I don't think the implementation effort will be big (perhaps defining 1 or 2 interfaces and an XML, and implementating this inerfaces for several existing features). Any way it could not hurt to have a well defined idea about it before the 1.7 release. Will the project decide on drastical changes after all, then at least the 1.7 release can be accompanied with warnings about forward compatiblity issues in this area.
