There's no need to backup the firmware itself, you can simply
re-download cheeky at http://download.fonosfera.org/Cheeky/

You can however, backup your settings. This is done in the webui, under
Settings -> System -> Settings (IIRC).

Also note that when normally upgrading the firmware, your settings are
preserved automatically, but backing them up can be useful when
something goes wrong and you need to reset.

In case something does go wrong with the upgrade, there is a recovery
method available, which should work even when you upload the wrong
fimrware or interrupt the process. This method is documented here:
