memory issues...
there once was also a target to fonera+ with fon-ng
but it has only 16mb ram whereas the fonera 2.0g has 32mbyte
flash size is 8mb in all cases I believe...
only the SIMPL has only 2 mbyte flash(?)

perhaps you could try to remove usb support and such with "make menuconfig"?
