Hey Folks,

I've also seen occasions where a storage device wouldn't properly show
up when it was connected at boot, though it happens so infrequently I've
never actually properly debugged it.

I am aware of a rare related problem: On one of my 2.0n's (but not
another) combined with a specific line of USB sticks (Intenso Premium
line), USB devices are not properly detected when doing a hard reset
(e.g., power cut). Whe doing a soft reset (reboot command, or through
the WebGUI) or when leaving the 2.0n powered down for 5 minutes or more,
the problem would not appear. Since this seemed to be a one-off defect
(it only occurred on one of my 2.0n's) I have stopped investigating
this problem, though. If you can reproduce this problem as repeatedly as
I have, perhaps you're seeing the same problem, though I somewhat doubt
it.

If you get this problem again, could you perhaps get the output of the
"logread" command shortly after the boot and send it over to the list?
That might help determine if you're seeing the same problem and/or if
your problem is in the kernel or in mountd.

I can't comment on whether that would have any (positive) effect,
really. If you're worried about the power supply, perhaps using a
powered hub could help?

This "usb_coldplug" script was created to make 3G devices work, it
shouldn't bee needed for mass storage device (IIRC mountd, responsible
for mounting storage devices, already checks for existing devices when
it starts).
