I'd strongly suggest you just set yourself up to do it. Then you get all of the credit (and all of the blame...) and you're ready to submit any future changes you want to make too. http://wiki.qt-project.org/Code_Reviews provides a list of steps to walk you through getting set up. On a seperate topic, I don't think this would meet the criteria for 4.8 - especially with 4.8.1 getting closer.
