Should the repository url be without the “cgit”, like
'https://code.qt.io/qt/qt3d.git' ?
“git clone https://code.qt.io/qt/qt3d.git” works for me.

Nope, still getting errors on fetch:
cd qt3d.git
git fetch --all --tags
