Hello,
I am Mattie Nejati, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Waterloo’s School of
Computer Science, working with Prof. Shane McIntosh in the Software Analytics
Group (SWAG) as part of the REBELs team.
You are invited to participate in a research study examining a new approach to
estimate the impact that a modification to CMake build specifications may have
on the build configuration. The purpose of the study is to evaluate whether our
proposed approach facilitates the detection of such impacts. The experiment
involves two task streams in which you inspect changes to CMake build
specifications.
You may participate in this study if you are an adult (ages 18-64) with any
level of prior experience in CMake, programming, or code review, as our results
will be reported for different levels of expertise. The results of these tasks
will help us understand the speed and accuracy at which developers can find the
impact of changes to the build specifications.
The experiments will take around one hour and will be held online. To
participate, you will need a computer with an internet connection and 4 GB of
free space to download the files required for the tasks.
We will not collect your name. We will ask for your email address to follow up
with you regarding the study. The system will assign a random number to you,
and the mapping between your email and this random number will be kept in an
encrypted database in a secure location, accessible only to the authors of this
study. Thus, your name or your email address will NOT appear in any dataset or
publication.
This study has been reviewed and received clearance from the University of
Waterloo Research Ethics Board (REB #46621).
If you are interested, please follow the link below to fill out the consent
form and the screening questionnaire, after which you will be redirected to the
experiment platform.
