No you're not. Sound going between the mike/earpiece and the GSM chip, and sound going between the mike/earpiece and the SoC are two different things. The Neo mixer is quite complicated, haven't bothered to figure it all out myself yet... Try the stereoout.state, it should at least output audio from the Neo. That should ascertain that it's a mixer setting issue.
