There's a bug filed for "I/O errors on heavy microSD writes". Is that what you experienced?

Kingston cards may not be compatible yet - see for example: http://lists.openmoko.org/pipermail/openmoko-uboot/2007-February/000012.html
I am using a Kingston 2G card and I haven't had any problems so far, but I haven't done much testing yet.
